1. Simple Present

We use the simple present to talk about things that are generally true, regular activities, and our jobs and responsibilities.

Examples:

I work in the marketing department.
She manages a team of five people.
    We have meetings every Monday.
    He speaks three languages.

Remember: Use this tense to talk about what you normally do or what is generally true.

2. Present Continuous

We use the present continuous to talk about things happening right now or temporary activities happening around the present time.

Examples:

I am talking to a new colleague right now.
She is working on a new project this week.
We are preparing a presentation for tomorrow.

Remember: Use this tense for what is happening now or around now, rather than what you normally do.

3. Present Perfect

We use the present perfect to talk about past events and situations that are connected to the present. We use it, for example, for situations that started in the past and are still continuing, life experiences up to the present, and past events that have a result or are relevant now.

Examples:

•     I have never been to Spain.

•     It has always rained a lot in England.

•     I have lived here for two years.

•     He has been studying business administration for ten years now – it is high time for him to finally earn his degree!

Remember: Use present perfect to talk about things that are not quite finished yet.

4.Simple Past

We use the simple past to talk about finished actions or events in the past.

Examples:

I joined the company two years ago.
She worked in sales before she became a manager.
    We had a meeting yesterday.
He studied business administration at university.

Remember: Use this tense for things that happened and are finished.

Quick Comparison

Simple present: I work in Frankfurt. (This is my usual job or situation.)
Present continuous: I am working from home today. (This is temporary or happening around now.)
Simple past: I worked in Berlin last year. (This happened in the past and is finished.)

5. Future

We use the will-future to talk about promises, threats, and things we have no influence over.

Examples:

"I will help you with your homework" or "The sun will rise."

We use the going-to future to talk about plans, or about predictions using factual observations.

Examples:

"I am going to visit my aunt this weekend" or "There are dark clouds, it is going to rain soon."

Remember: Use "will" for promises, "going to" for plans.
